The mission of the Colonial Heights Christian Church Food Ministry is to share the love of Jesus Christ by caring for the spiritual and practical needs of the community.
The Ministry began in 1996 primarily to assist members, families, and friends of the church. By God’s Blessing, and with the help of many dedicated volunteers, the Ministry quickly grew and now provides food and other needed items to over 600 families per month in the Kingsport area. Funds come from the general budget of the church, and the food is obtained from Second Harvest Food Bank in Gray, Tennessee, and other private organizations.
(Volunteer opportunities are listed below.)
The CHCC Food Ministry program is open to Sullivan County residents and
operates under U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines. Likely eligible
clients include SSI recipients, households living at or beneath Federal
Poverty Guidelines, Medicaid recipients, and those who have recently lost a
job.
GIVING/VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
GIVING: The most effective way to give is through
Second Harvest Food Bank.
Donors are asked to designate their gift for Colonial Heights Christian Church and then contact our director Chad Garland, , so we will know a contribution has been made to our account.
We also welcome donation of non-perishable food, canned goods, and items which cannot be purchased with
food stamps, such as health & beauty aids, paper goods, and cleaning items. Donations can be dropped off on Monday and Wednesday mornings at the Food
Pantry, which faces Lebanon Road, directly across from Colonial Heights Middle School.
VOLUNTEER: Items are distributed each Monday, with preparation beginning at 7am and distribution ending around 11am. We always welcome pantry volunteers on Monday mornings.
